Frequently Asked Questions

Mother Holding Baby Finger

What is a 3D/4D Ultrasound?

Three-dimensional or 3D ultrasound uses sound waves to capture many images of your baby from different angles and create a 3D picture or sonogram. A 4D ultrasounds show moving 3D images of your baby.

Is there anything I should do before the exam?

Drinking water not only helps increase the amniotic fluid around your baby, but it also helps make the fluid clearer. The more amniotic fluid in front of your baby's face, the better the images.  It's important to increase your water intake at least 2 weeks prior to your scan.

We suggest you to drink at least 64oz of water a day for 2 weeks leading up to your scan.

30 minutes prior to your appointment, please have a sweet snack (if there are no diet restrictions) and either orange juice or cold water since they are known to make the baby move.

Can you guarantee a perfect scan?

The outcome of this examination is not always certain and hinges on various factors, including the baby's position, gestational age, the amount of amniotic fluid present, hands and legs position, and the position of the umbilical cord. Keep in mind that sound waves do not travel through bone and air. If the baby is facing backwards, I may ask you to take a walk or re-position to try and have baby move. We're committed to capturing the highest quality images and delivering an exceptional experience for you. if we are unsuccessful, we will offer one rescan at no additional cost.

Determination of gender

Accurate picture of your baby's genitalia can be more easily obtained if your bladder is completely full for first trimester. Gender determination can be seen by 14 weeks, using the NUB THEORY. In the event your baby has ambiguous genitalia or any other abnormalities regarding your baby, gender will not be determined and a follow-up with your primary care provider or OB medical staff will be needed to further evaluate.

Drink at least 64 oz. of water daily, a week before your ultrasound appointment so we can see your baby clearly.  For second & third trimester it is not necessary to fill your bladder.

When is a good time to perform 3D-4D ultrasound?

Getting clear images mostly depends on the position of the baby, placenta position and the amniotic fluid. We recommend to schedule your appointment anytime between 26 and 32 weeks because that’s when you will be able to see all the futures. However; it would be magical to peek at your baby in various stages of pregnancy even before week 26 since at an early stage the baby movement is very entertaining. We will gladly see you after 32 weeks, just keep in mind that due to the space and your baby growing, the visibility may be limited. It is so important to remember to keep hydrated!!! We have seen beautiful baby images on their due date. So, it is very possible.

Let's give your little one a sea of amniotic fluid to swim in! Drink up for crystal-clear 3D images.

Remember, if we cannot image your baby due to previous factors mentioned, it is not your Tech fault.

Do you offer Refund if no pictures are obtained?

We DO NOT offer Refund; however, if no pictures are obtained, we will ask you to reschedule for another limited exam at no extra cost for in-office appointments or 35% off for in-home appointments.

Is 3D-4D Ultrasound Safe?

Ultrasound scans are completely safe for both mothers and babies. As the name suggests, ultrasound technology uses sound waves, not radiation, and poses no risk of birth defects, developmental or intellectual problems, or cancer. Additionally, 3D-4D imaging is a complementary tool and not a replacement for regular medical care.
